Nelle Harper Lee foi uma escritora norte-americana, ganhadora do Prémio Pulitzer de Ficção em 1961 pela sua obra de ficção To Kill a Mockingbird .

Filha caçula de quatro filhos, Lee passou sua infância e adolescência em Monroeville, mudando-se para Nova York em 1949. Em 11 de julho de 1960 publicou O Sol É para Todos, tornando-se sucesso de público e crítica, e desde então nunca mais lançou um livro até que fosse descoberto o Vá coloque uma vigia, escondido numa caixa, e lançado em 2015.

Em 2007 foi premiada com a "Medalha Presidencial da Liberdade dos Estados Unidos" por suas contribuições à literatura.

Muito reservada, não dava entrevistas há anos. Morreu de causas naturais numa clínica para idosos em Monroeville, em 19 de fevereiro de 2016.

Harper Lee foi interpretada por Catherine Keener no filme Capote , por Sandra Bullock no filme Infamous , e por Tracey Hoyt no filme para TV Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story . Na adaptação de outras vozes de Capote, Other Rooms , a personagem de Idabell Thompkins, que foi inspirado em memórias de Truman Capote de Harper Lee como uma criança, foi interpretado por Aubrey Dollar.
