John Kennedy Toole foi um romancista norte-americano mais conhecido por seu romance publicado postumamente bra: Uma Confraria de Tolos /prt: Uma Conspiração de Estúpidos, vencedor do Prémio Pulitzer de Ficção. Ele também escreveu "The Neon Bible". Embora várias pessoas do mundo literário acreditassem em suas habilidades de escrita, os romances de Toole foram rejeitadas durante sua vida. Sofrendo de paranóia e depressão, em parte devido a estas rejeições, cometeu suicídio aos 31 anos de idade.
