Margarida II, nascida Margarida Alexandrina Thorhildur Ingrid é a rainha da Dinamarca desde 1972. Era a filha mais velha do rei Frederico IX e sua esposa a princesa Ingrid da Suécia, ascendendo ao trono após a morte de seu pai e se tornando a primeira mulher soberana da Dinamarca desde Margarida I no século XV.

Margarida tornou-se herdeira presuntiva apenas em 1953, quando uma emenda constitucional foi aprovada permitindo que mulheres ascendessem ao trono, já que estava claro que Frederico não teria nenhum filho homem. Ela se casou com Henrique de Laborde de Monpezat em 1967, com quem tem dois filhos: Frederico, Príncipe Herdeiro e Joaquim.

Margarida II e Isabel II do Reino Unido são as únicas rainhas soberanas da atualidade.
