Alice Malsenior Walker é uma escritora estado-unidense e ativista feminista.

Filha de agricultores, ela perdeu a visão de um dos olhos aos 8 anos de idade, num acidente. Graças à sua dedicação, Alice Walker conseguiu sucessivas bolsas de estudos]], graduando-se em artes pelo Sarah Lawrence College, em 1965. Walker iniciou sua carreira de escritora com Once, um volume de poesias, e alcançou fama mundial com A Cor Púrpura.

O romance A Cor Púrpura foi premiado com o Prémio Pulitzer de Ficção, e deu origem a um filme dirigido por Steven Spielberg, com a atriz Whoopi Goldberg no papel principal. Na obra, a personagem escreve cartas a Deus e à irmã desaparecida. Walker mostra representações de uma mulher negra sulista quase analfabeta, que vive em uma realidade dura de pobreza, opressão e desamor.

A autora escreveu também o livro De amor de desespero, uma obra composta pelas vozes de várias mulheres negras do sul dos Estados Unidos. O livro é uma coletânea de vários contos, nos quais conhecemos mulheres diferentes com seus temores, desafios e sonhos. No Brasil, o livro foi lançado pela editora Rocco.

Walker sempre foi uma ativista pelos direitos dos negros e das mulheres, destacando-se na luta contra o apartheid e contra a mutilação genital feminina em países africanos.

Em 1984, fundou sua própria editora, a Wild Trees Press.

Na década de 1990, manteve um relacionamento amoroso com Tracy Chapman .
