Samuel Ray Delany Jr. é um premiado autor americano de ficção científica. Ele escreveu trabalhos generosamente aclamados pela crítica, incluindo os romances, Babel-17, The Einstein Intersection, Nova, Hogg, Dhalgren, e a série The Return to Nevèrÿon. Depois de ganhar quatro prêmios Nebula e dois prêmios Hugo ao longo de sua carreira, Delany foi introduzido no Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame em 2002.De janeiro de 2001 a maio de 2015, ele lecionou inglês e escrita criativa na Universidade Temple, na Filadélfia. Ele é largamente conhecido no mundo acadêmico como crítico literário. Em 2010 ele venceu o J. Lloyd Eaton Lifetime Achievement Award in Science Fiction da Academia de Eaton Science Fiction Conference da UCR Libraries. O Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America nomeou ele o 30º SFWA Grand Master em 2013.
