John Ford foi um dramaturgo, poeta e ator inglês, um dos principais e mais originais representantes do chamado teatro isabelino.

John Ford nasceu no povoado de Ilsington sendo batizado em 17 de abril de 1586 . Pouco se sabe de sua vida até seu ingresso no Exeter College de Oxford, em 26 de maio de 1601. Iniciou efetivamente sua carreira artística ao escrever alguns poemas de tom elegíaco , em 1606 dedicados à morte de Charles Blount, conde de Devon, que fora seu patrocinador durante sua carreira.
