Elton John, Kt, GBE , é um pianista, cantor, compositor e produtor. Elton possui 35 discos de ouro e 25 discos de platina, já vendeu mais de 450 milhões de discos em todo o mundo, e detém o recorde de o single mais vendido de todos os tempos, sempre apontado como um dos maiores hit makers do século XX. Ao longo de quase cinco décadas, desde 1969, Elton fez mais de 3 500 concertos ao redor do mundo. Elton John é homossexual assumido e vive com o companheiro David Furnish desde meados da década de 90. Em 2005 os dois se casaram no civil e em 2014 oficializaram a união. O casal tem dois filhos nascidos de uma barriga de aluguel: Zachary e Elijah.

Em 1997, a Rainha Elizabeth II o nomeou Cavaleiro do Império Britânico, recebendo o título de Sir, depois do artista ter homenageado a recém falecida princesa Diana em seu funeral, com a música Candle in the Wind. Lady DI, como era conhecida, era uma amiga muito próxima do cantor. A rainha concedeu o título, em agradecimento ao apoio emocional que Elton prestou à família real.
